Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Expands Cardiology Department with Addition of Cardiac Nurse Practitioner
August 09, 2019
At the end of 2018, Carle Richland Memorial Hospital re-opened its Cardiology department with the addition of Raymond Fisher, M.D. to its medical staff. Since then, we have continued to grow the department with the addition of Monica Scott, Cardiac Nurse Practitioner.
Monica has spent the last several months working alongside Dr. Fisher and is highly prepared to begin seeing patients on her own. With several year’s experience in the cardiac and vascular unit at Carle Foundation Hospital, Monica knew that’s what she wanted her focus to be once she earned her Advanced Practice Nurse degree.
“I was really inspired by my grandparents, both of which had heart disease. That’s where my passion for cardiac care originated,” states Monica.
As a cardiology NP, Monica can help her patients with preventive care.
“I want to help educate my patients on what they can do to prevent health issues, such as a heart attack. I’m hoping the one-on-one time I can spend with my patients will help to address lifestyle changes and catch warning signs early so a major health issue can be prevented before it happens,” says Monica.
Working with Dr. Fisher over the last several months has helped to expand her knowledge base on cardiac-related issues.
“Dr. Fisher is so knowledgeable and he challenges me to come up with a plan of care for our patients. He has been genuinely interested in helping me learn. We are both very patient-focused and take our time with each patient so they can ask questions and really feel included in their care,” says Monica.
Monica earned her Bachelors of Nursing from SIU-Edwardsville and her Masters in Nursing from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She currently resides in Effingham with her husband, Zach, and labradoodle, Bonnie.
She is currently taking patients at the Cardiology Clinic located at CRMH, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, and will also being seeing patients at the Bridgeport Clinic upon its opening in September. Call the Cardiology Clinic at 618.392.1139 to make an appointment at any of the clinics.
