Meet the CRMH AirLife Crew - Cortney Schumacher

June 03, 2019

If you are faced with an emergency situation that requires air ambulance transport, knowing that you are in the hands of a trained professional can make a stressful situation a little easier. Carle Richland Memorial Hospital is pleased to introduce the members of the Carle AirLife team to the communities we serve. These individuals will be stationed at the hospital and ready to respond at a moment’s notice to those emergencies that require a patient to be flown to a larger hospital for care. They will also act as an additional trauma team in the emergency department should there be a need.

Meet Cortney.

Cortney is filling the role of Clinical Base Supervisor for AirLife at Carle Richland in addition to being a Flight Paramedic. A graduate of Lake Land College in Mattoon with an Associate’s Degree in Paramedical Services, she realized that her true calling was in critical care transport after completing a couple of very challenging transports. She traveled to Asheville, North Carolina, for an extensive 12-day course in critical care transport. After beginning her flight career with Arch Air Medical Service, she obtained her Flight Paramedic certification.

“For me, it’s really about being there and being able to make an impact on someone on their worst day. I’m honored to be able to be a part of bringing this service to a rural community that is in need. I look forward to helping to lead and grow the base at Carle Richland,” said Schumacher.

While Cortney is excited for the new challenges opening and supervising a base will bring, she makes sure to keep a good work-life balance. She enjoys spending time with her three children, Aidan, Anderson and Ava, as well as her significant other, Trevor. Her children participate in various sports and have several hobbies, which keeps everyone busy. She also enjoys reading and visiting new places and trying out new experiences with her family.

AirLife will be stationed at the CRMH helipad beginning in mid-June. We will continue to introduce members of the crew over the course of the next several weeks.
