Mental Health First Aid Gets Huge Response
October 18, 2019
Since the introduction of the Mental Health First Aid program to Richland and surrounding counties, Leslie Shan, QMHP, and Terri Priest, EMT-B, have been steadily increasing the number of classes they offer. The purpose of these classes is to train individuals to recognize and know how to respond if they notice an individual having a mental health crisis. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of someone in need of mental health intervention and will be trained to handle the situation until professional help can arrive. Classes can be geared toward either adult or youth mental health first aid.
They currently have two public adult classes open for enrollment in Jasper County. The dates for the 8-hour courses are November 5 and 18. There is also a public class in Richland County on December 11. If you would like to enroll for one of these courses, go to www.carle.org/mhfa.
If you have a business, organization, church or school group, etc. and would like to schedule a private class for your staff or members, please contact Leslie directly at 618.392.1486.
